WACKY WASPS RETURN AS BEE CHAMPIONS

This year's FBE Youth Spelling Bee ended with aplomb at 9:15 p.m., on the 27th word of the championship round, when last year's winning team - "The Wacky Wasps" - were again proclaimed champions by successfully spelling the word surveillance. Team members Andrew Giorgio, Ben Jones, Nick Jones and Ryan Sass must have been quite proud to have their second win in a row.

While all teams actively participate in the Bee, only the oldest age group of fifth and sixth graders is competitive. The pronouncers select from teacher-approved, age-appropriate words such as boxes, found, and mother from the Grades K, 1, and 2 list and words such as heard, quite, and polite from the Grades 3 and 4 list. The words became increasingly more difficult as the afternoon went on and the final competitive round, for 5th and 6th graders, was very lengthy as all of the teams were well-prepared and were able to successfully spell such words as treacherous, miniature, camouflage, nauseous, and prestigious.

A big congratulations goes out to The Wacky Wasps and all of the participating spellers in this year's FBE Youth Spelling Bee.  The Spelling Bee organizing committee extends its grateful thanks to the Belmont community for its participation in this exciting event!
